The video “Frontiers of Racism” is about African Americans, Anti-Immigration Movement, and Immigration in general. It gives clear in-depth information about Immigrants and how it tied to racism and to African Americans. I agree that Immigrates and African American are basically fighting for the same rights as whites because of white supremacy. It’s all about White American being above other races and basically making excuses of why Whites should be the “best” race. Like the video state, it goes back to slavery with blacks and whites and ever since slavery was abolished in the late 1800’s, whites still wanted black to be lower standard then them and not have certain rights that was given to them by the government. The white worked it way through the government so that white will still have some power over blacks.

The myths that have been spread are immigrants are taking jobs so that’s why African American is not getting that many jobs. The whites want the immigrants and blacks to fight each other. This is not true, according to the video, the 3 reason why it is hard for African Americans to get job are job discrimination, substandard education, and attacks on unionization. These factors are just because whites being superior to any other race because blacks are good at forming unions to fight against white supremacy which had happen in the past such as the Civil Right Movement. It was also the myth of the Alamo battle. According to the video, in the early 1800’s, people that settle in Mexico had a problem which was slavery was illegal there and the white settlers want Mexico to become part of America which under the government law was legal to have slavery. The Alamo fought to keep practices of slavery and white supremacy. The Council of Conservation Citizen was a new name to have all white school and support segregation. This was also hidden to still support white supremacy.
The true reason nativists oppose immigrations because according to another NativismWatchTV video, “The Tanton Network” which explains anti-immigration movement is immigrations are brings diseases, over population of America, and taking jobs opportunity. This is all part of excuses for white supremacy. In conclusion, white supremacy is wrong and the problems for immigrants and African Americans are also wrong. It’s all part of excuses for white supremacy. Anti-Immigration movement is wrong because it cause immigrants not the same rights as any other race if they are legal immigrants.

The video shows several reasons how racism towards African Americans and immigration are connected to each other. I say that African Americans and Immigrants are fighting for rights to be treated the same way whites are being treated; whites are getting treated like they are human being and true American citizens because of their own belief of whites power. Whites feel like they are better than any other race other than their own and they try to find “reason” why they feel that way. In the video it states that free slaves were not getting the respect that they deserve from the whites and the whites were finding ways to make the whites still feel like blacks are less of a person and more of an animal. The new movement in our country against immigration is tied to racism because whites were treating immigrants with no respect just like they did to the African Americans and they also feel that the immigrants and the African Americans are going to change the whites way of life that they think only the whites should be exposed to. The myths that are spread is that the immigrants are getting jobs that the blacks wants and that is not the case, the real reason is as stated in the video is job discrimination, substandard education and attacks on unionization. These reasons are because the whites are trying to overpower the black people and the blacks would not let them because they are able for form unions that can help them protect their rights that they need as an American citizen. Whites also do not understand that blacks and other races such as Hispanics can work together as one instead of fighting each other, in the video in says that blacks and Hispanics marched together for civil rights. Nativists opposed immigration because immigrants are being over diseases, overcrowding America and talking over jobs. This is just another way for whites to send back the immigrants that have many reasons to leave there country and come to America for a new start to a better life and get treated as a person not an animal. I feel that immigrants who are in America legally should get equal rights as whites because they are human being just like the whites and they can do the same type of jobs that the whites do and also some of the jobs the whites are doing is being controlled by an immigrants or family of an immigrant.

The video showed many examples of how racism towards African Americans and the immigrants are related to each other. I think the video is saying that African Americans and Immigrants are fighting for the rights to be treated equally as whites are being treated. African Americans and immigrants are getting treated like they are not human, if you where to compare them to whites you would see that whites were treated like gods. And because of that, whites feel as if they are better than any other race. And because their ancestor had that state of mind most were also raised thinking that. Even In the video it says that free slaves were not getting the respect that they deserve from the whites, and the whites were finding reasons to make themselves still feel more powerful the blacks, all because they consider them “Not Human”. in the early eighteen hundreds, people that settled in Mexico had a problem which was slavery. I agree with Christal Dewberry when she says that anti-immigration is wrong, and there should not be any immigrants because they can bring diseases and more. It is also wrong because when immigrants arrive to American (disease free or not) they come and take the jobs in America that have low wages. Its completely wrong for everyone and that is including African Americans.

ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, The Anti-Immigration Movement was 90% racist. The Anti-Immigration movement was mostly trying to protect jobs of born citizens due to the increase of immigrants, but they also cause many problems. If you were to have to pin blame on someone for racism in America, you would probably pick the Anti-Immigration movement. Anti-Immigration also affected blacks, even though blacks were really never immigrants, they were taken away from their country by force or trickery. Like the video said, about 2 million blacks could not vote because Anti-Immigration rules, The Ku Klux Klan, and voting requirements which required them basically the need of education or ID, no black had this since slavery wasn’t far long abolished. Hispanics were also affected by the Anti-Immigration, since it mostly affect them. Many people complained of immigrants taking their jobs for lower wage, most of these people were nationalist or white supremacies. Also the fact that they made black believe that Hispanics were taking their jobs, even though it was due to discrimination and black’s lack of education. The Anti-Immigration was pretty much a corrupted bunch of whites, trying to stop blacks and immigrants from having jobs or American education. Oppression on race in America would be the Council of Conservative Citizens which was an all white group who was trying to maintain segregation and basically keep racism. Many of the people in the group were trying to make sure no black was able to vote or even anyone of a different race or even religion could vote. Many of these groups denied trying to stop non-whites from voting or having civil rights as whites, since they think they were doing the right thing. It wasn’t even that long ago that black and some immigrants finally got equality in America. Though at the cost of many martyrs like Martin Luther King and Malcolm X. The Ku Klux Klan were probably inspired by the Anti-Immigration Movement, giving them a chance to act violently against blacks for their color, or if they try to vote. Even the Alamo wasn’t the greatest war, since whites wanted to preserve slavery in Texas. In my opinion, the Anti-Immigration Movement cause many discrimination back in the early 1900s and mid 1900s of America.
This video "Frontiers Of Racism" was mostly about about immigration and how terrible African Americans were treated by whites. Blacks had no say in anything and whites never hesitated to kill them. They had no rights and this causes negative actions. The one problem in the video was how immigrants were taking the jobs that African Americans had. They didn't accept that and that's why most African Americans do not like immigrants. One thing they had in common was the harsh treatment by whites. Immigrants and African Americans showed that they wanted the same treatment as whites got but whites wasn't trying so be on the same level. It seemed like whites wanted blacks and immigrants to be against each other. The new movement in our country against immigration is tied to historical racism because whites are now treating immigrants as how they treated blacks. Whites feel like they can benefit from immigrants and they want the satisfaction that they are above them. One myth that has been spread is that immigrants are just taking African Americans jobs but that is not true. Blacks mainly cannot even get jobs because of the color of their skin. To end this off, I feel that immigration shouldn't even be aloud because of the negative problems that it cause. The more problems, the more dangerous the world will get.
ReplyDeleteAfter watching that short documentary on immigration and racism my eyes have been opened to see the truth about how the two groups relate to each other. America came to be anti immigration because the white supremacist group, Council of Conservative Citizens, trying to keep African Americans from making any social progress and advancement after the civil rights movement. The connection was made between low African American job rates an immigrant job rates to cause the two groups to go against each other instead of fighting together to overcome their common struggle. As more immigrants started coming to America they seemed to be occupying more jobs while blacks were only able to obtain a few. White supremacists have led African Americans to believe that the immigrants coming from other parts of the world were coming to America and taking all or most of the jobs they should have. In doing this the whites were able to get African Americans to support their anti immigration movement while keeping them from advancing their race without them even knowing. The truth about the low employment rates for African Americans comes from their substandard educations, discrimination from employers, and attacks on labor unions. These three factors never seem to cross the mind of blacks they immediately put the blame on immigrants entering the U.S. I agree with the video and its perspective on immigration and its direct effect on the African American race. Blacks should look past their competition in the job market and find ways they can improve themselves, if they decided to do this when they found that they couldn’t obtain many jobs their race would have progressed instead of being held back. Although immigrants do not have more qualifications than most blacks they were willing to do the same jobs for a more reduced payment which made them more likely to get hired. If African Americans were willing to take the same low wages as immigrants they would not have the rights they have today. Although African Americans were turned against immigrants for the wrong reasons they were able to stand for their rights and raised the black employment standard by refusing to work for payment that was less than what they considered to be sufficient.
ReplyDeleteThe video "Frontiers Of Racism" is a story discussing the divide and conquer method used between black and Latino people, the causes of African-American unemployment and more. This video is basically a clip that describes how differently African Americans and Immigrants were mistreated and under whites do to racism and White Supremacy. Things like this led to what is called the Anti-Immigration Movement which is told all throughout the video. White people only wanted to above and always above blacks and immigrants no matter if slavery was done with or not. That's why still today we all still see some racism still in this world. Immigrants and African American's are considered in the same position in this situation. Due to the way the government was formed and developed, even after slavery whites still had some thing's thats not equal to blacks. Another thing that came along in this video was the trouble African Americans and Immigrants had with finding jobs. Immigrants tend to be getting more jobs as you can see in our prior day. Things like this cause African's American's to feel even lower and now under Immigrants. At the end of the day, no one's equal. This video shows and tells lies if you ask me. I feel the people that created it did it to put lies out and make people believe that the Alamo battle has a great part in this and how the real reason African Americans don't have jobs is because of things like substandard education and job discrimination. This like this cause black's not to like the immigrants coming to America and this causes issues and hatred towards the two components. War between them i feel is what whites would love to have in the end. Why an't we all just be created equal like Dr. King really wanted and fought for. We thought we was but i seems we were fooled. The whites showed us a lot of equalness but not enough to make us not realize what is going on. And videos like "the frontiers of racism" is to trick the human mind. That is why i do not agree at all with the video.
ReplyDeleteLaw protected racism, such as, Jim Crow laws, may be outlawed in this day and age, but racism does still exist within America. Decades ago, any person who was not of a white background was discriminated against and persecuted by law. Today’s anti-immigration movement is somewhat of a shadow for the movements against integration and equal rights during the Civil Rights movement. Nativists oppose an immigration increase because they are afraid that the available jobs will go to foreigners who immigrated here. Nativists believe that the opportunities and rights given to immigrants will favor them only because they are from other countries. Back during the Civil Rights movement, whites thought that blacks would take all the jobs meant for skilled white people because it was difficult to find a job for a black person, and they accepted lower wages. A similar problem was found among nativists during the immigration period. They were afraid that immigrants would take all the available jobs, simply because foreigners would work for less.
ReplyDeleteWhat I find unfair is the number of people that are against racism, but are against immigration. The two ideals are quite contradicting. As it turns out, the rumor that continues to go around saying that immigrants get all the good jobs is, as I stated, just a rumor. A myth actually. As it turns out, the foreign people who come to American seeking work can’t find it because Americans need jobs. It’s unfair for American to be viewed as a country where foreign people can find what they need, when we are making movements against immigration.
Its goes to say that without people from all around the world, America would be a country without diversity , which is somewhat what America is known for. A country without diversity would incorporate the idea that freedom is a privilege only, not a natural right. An idea that people aren’t allowed to express their ideas and try to gain support. So yes, I disagree with the anti-immigration movement, and think that we as a country should allow people from other countries to come here and fins what it is their looking for.
Immigration has become issue in our society today; people are gunned down while trying to cross the border to come over. They try to come over here and have a better life for them and their children. Instead they get dogs sent on them, or sometimes even killed. This video just further proves things that have been said for years now. Immigration is linked to racism in many ways, the people in this country are afraid. They are afraid of the immigrants coming over and taking their jobs away from them. They know that the immigrants will work for lower wages, and for longer times. Maybe if Americans weren’t lazy they wouldn’t have to worry about the immigrants coming over and taking their jobs away from them. If they were ready and willing to do the jobs that the immigrants would do they wouldn’t have to think about their jobs being in jeopardy. They wouldn’t have to think that they would be out of a job. It’s hard to only put the blame on Americans though; huge company owners are passing our rightful jobs over to immigrants. That’s why our economy is struggling now anyway, we keep outsourcing instead of keeping the jobs in the country. How else are we to fix this economy if people can’t even work? Immigrants and African Americans are in the same struggle. They are fighting for the rights that they deserve as HUMANS. Not only as Americans, have people had the right to be treated with respect and kindness. Without that what separates us from animals? Nothing. It is hard to believe that after so many years we still have to face with the cruel troughs of racism. Aren’t we past that? Isn’t it time to stand above that and unite? I believe that it is. The people that are trying and have tried to enter this country aren’t coming here to harm anybody. They just want to better themselves and have a better life they didn’t have when they were in their native land. That’s why I believe that we shouldn’t be so strict on our immigration laws. If that were the case then all of the people with Caribbean descent would not be here and that would eliminate a lot of our society.
