Words to live by often come from our favorite celebrities. What is one of your favorite deep statements by a rapper, actor, or other major public figure? How has it affected the way you view yourself, others, the world, or life? How does it relate to literature you have read? If the quote contains curse words, edit them out to receive credit.

I have many quotes I live by every day. Quotes from movies, my parents, my teachers, my friends, etc. One of my deep and favorite quote comes from the lovely singer and actress Janet Jackson. “I used to hurt so badly that I'd ask God why, what have I done to deserve any of this? I feel now He was preparing me for this, for the future. That's the way I see it.” I live by this quote in a religious way and in my everyday life.
ReplyDeleteI am Christian- Baptist. So, a person from my church and my pastor tells and explain this quote in great detail. They all say what you’re going through or the pain that you’re going through now, is all part of God plan for your future and God is never put you through something that's too much for you to handle. In my everyday life, I use it the same way and knowing that the difficult things I'm doing is just preparing me for future coming. For example, in my class if I think something is difficult, it's just preparing me for how the work is going to be like when I enter college. My parents are not going to be there to help with my homework or help me get organize or the teacher is not going to take time out his class to help me with something I don't understand. I have to learn these things now. Another example is a personal event that happens to me. My mother's best friend died and she was like a second mother to me and I was only 8 years old at this time. I thought that God has taken a person that I love so much and he is putting a lot of pain in my life. I have found out later on and still to this day that God have put a special person in my life to better myself and listen to her quotes and saying in the future. Yes she is gone forever; however, she will always remain in my heart.
I view myself differently from this quote because I use to be the people who like the he/she gossip in my middle school. I had friends to always talk about people and what I said always come back to me and my friends will turn against me. I got into many arguments and a fight with people because of he/she gossip. People didn't like me and didn't want to be around me. I have learn two lessons which are I know who my true friends are now and if you don't have nothing nice to say or valuable to say, then don't say anything because it will come back to haunt you. I have changed and mature and learn that gossip is nothing and focus on my school work and not the drama. I look at other differently because I want to be friends with people who will have a positive impact on my life such as getting good grades in school, nice, warm-hearted, etc. I don't like to surround myself with people with bad attitudes, not in school, or just plain mean.
In conclusion, I learn that everything that happens in my life is preparing me for the future.
I would start off by saying that my life revolves around quotes. But the main quotes i live by everyday is by the rapper 2pac. May he rest in peace by the way. The twos quotes that i follow in my everyday life that tupac said is "keep ya head up", and "for every dark night, theres a brighter day". These quotes affect me the most because they mean a lot to me. The quote"keep ya head up" always comes to my mind when I'm upset about something or going through a tuff time. For example, if a loved one has died this quote would help me out with the pain by telling me not to put my head down and be sad for long. Me doing that isn't going to bring that person back so the better thing to do would be for me to just let it go, keep that person in my heart, move on and keep my head up. The other quote "For every dark night, there's a brighter day" helps me more with everyday issues. It helps me ease the miner problems off of my mind and get over them. There are many things teens my age going through hard lives and horribe situations so how could i dear to be sad about something that i could live without. That's the only things that i would be down about mostly. But back to the quote, whenever im upset one night i always know that theirs gonna be a day that i am going to be happy again.
ReplyDeleteWithout these quotes, I have no clue of what i would do. Life just seems much easier when i think of these two things. Also, the songs of tupac really help me too. Songs like Keep ya head up, Me against the world and changes makes me view life differently. They help me be happy about my life. When i really think about it i do have it good and these quotes/songs help me realize that and be grateful everyday. The quote "Keep ya head up" could relate to Okonkwo in the book "Things Fall Apart". Even though Okonkwo killed his son he could of got very depressed and even to the point to were he committed suicide. Thing's like what he wrote could really eat you up after a while especially the regret. So this quote could relate to him by him keeping his head up and not beating himself up over it. Also with all the other issues he faced in the book like turning into his father. That's why i feel this quote relates to him a lot.
Lastly even though 2pac is no longer alive, his quotes never die and im glad he said these quotes because i love them and they make me a better person.
"Remember one thing
Through every dark night, there's a bright day after that
So no matter how hard it get, stick your chest out
Keep your head up, and handle it"
-Tupac Shakur (R.I.P)
We miss you!!
A recent quote that I read, that I am guilty of and need to apply to my everyday life is the quote by Christina Aguilera, “What is it in us that makes us feel the need to keep pretending...we gotta let ourselves be.” Most of the time I am ashamed of the person I truly am because I feel I may be judge harshly, as a result I try to feign an innocent, shy, quiet, obscured person, when in fact I am opposite of that. I am a loud respectful, responsible, confident, weirdly outstanding person. I apply a similar quote to my life, with trying to just be myself around people.
ReplyDeleteWho knows what it is that makes people ashamed, embarrassed, scared, or concerned to be and express who they really are. There is a conflict within ourselves that disables us to accept who we are around other people so we pretend to be someone we are not or do not want to be and sometimes it becomes hard to distinguish between who we are and the person that we want people to believe we are.
A piece of literature that the quote can be applied to is the book Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe. The push for Okonkwo’s personality is the fact that he wants to be the total opposite of his father and he does not want to be considered agbala(womanly) in the eyes of other people, consequently, he appears to be violent, scary, and angry. A perfect example in the book is when Okonkwo was told that his son Ikemefuna had to die. Okonkwo went into the forest with Ikemefuna and the others, a man slashed him in the back and Ikemefuna cried out for his father. Okonkwo was about to show emotion or sadness, when he got hold of himself and mutilated his own son that pleaded for help. Okonkwo was ashamed that others would perceive him as effeminate, and weak if he was to become sensitive during a killing so he had to prove to others that he is strong and manly. The concern of how others view him made him cruel and careless of the fact that he participated in his son’s death, whereas the emotion he was going to show was careful, and sympathetic.
When finding the answer to this quote and then following it; confidence, satisfactory and more can be achieved if you accept who you are, and live the life you are no longer afraid to be.

ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite quote is from my favorite wrestler John Cena, he has a skirt that says “ Never Give Up” and I live by this quote because everything I do I try not to give up on it, if it something I can not do that I know is not going to work out of me I would not do it but if it is something I cannot do without a little help I well take it and finish the rest on my own and I make sure that I work hard for me so I can do better than the people having something negative to say about my goals or achievements. I never give up because I want to reach for higher goals and I am going to make sure that I have people that can help me reach my goal and if you are not doing that for me then I do not need you as my company because you are going to lead my down the wrong direction and my goals are going to get sidetracked. John Cena shows me how he lives by this quote that makes me live by it, he stand up to any task that faces him in the wrestling ring and he find ways to come out with the victory and that I what I do it in life I find a way to make any task (homework, school work, chores) simpler to finish. This Quote helps me choose my friends because I need friends that will push me towards my goal in life and if you’re not helping them I’m not working with you. People should take the time to realize this quote in their lifestyle because their dreams are being pushed aside and it’s because they are giving up and if they fight fir their goals and come out the winner it will because they did never gave up and focused on the task at hand. To focus on your goals you have to have a positive driving sprit that will allow you to push on as far as you can. In conclusion you should Never Give Up on your goals and dreams in life because they can be someone out there in the world trying to doing the same thing you doing and they succeed so can you so “Never Get Up”.
Words we live by often come from an abundance of places. We get them from stories, poems, newspaper articles, and books. But one place they often come from is songs. One of the songs that I listen to and live by on some levels is “I Can Do Bad All by Myself” by Mary J. Blige. When I first listened to this song, I thought it was very inspirational and uplifting. The song encourages women to be independent and not depend on anyone to do anything for them. It motivates women to do what needs to be done in order to gain recognition and independence. I don’t listen to one specific genre of music, but I do prefer songs with a meaning, where the lyrics make sense. And if I had to pick one of many favorite songs, this would be it. Here is the verse that I can relate to the most.
ReplyDeleteSomebody told me once that running from the rain don't make no sense.
I had my own dog cry for awhile now, it goes where ever I’m going.
Your telling me the grass just might be greener on the other side.
But I don't want to take a chance on dirt when I got grass even though the grass has died.
The main idea of this particular verse is, why wait for someone else to do something for you when you have a better chance of getting it done yourself? One should struggle for an unnecessary reason when life can be somewhat easier if they just rely on oneself instead of other people. The reason I love this song so much is because it’s very real, and the lyrics come from the heart of someone real. I believe that nowadays we need more motivational and encouraging songs that are uplifting and inspiring. Young women, as well as women of all ages need to understand that they do not need a man, or anyone else to prove their self worth. Self worth is proven by the amount of self esteem one has.
Based on the lyrics of this song, my perception of life would be to work more on being independent than anything else. I find that I am more productive when I am being independent. Many women have the impression that they have to rely on someone when it comes to getting things done, whether it be a man, a friend, a parent…..etc. But the truth of the matter is, it’s not necessary to rely on anyone; all one needs to do is trust themselves. When it comes to where we look, or what we listen to in order to get the motivation we need, all we have to do is see the goal we have set for ourselves and make it real. This song taught me one very important thing: be independent, and rely only on myself.
One of my favorite quotes comes from the deceased world famed actress Marilyn Monroe she once said, “I'm selfish, impatient and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I am out of control and at times hard to handle. But if you can't handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best." This quote is saying over time everybody goes through a series of emotions based on how things in their life are going at the moment and if somebody is not willing to stick with you through the worst of times they should not be there to enjoy the good with you. The is very true as it relates to me because I sometimes display bipolar like behavior and my family always accepts me for it while some others do not so they are not as important in my life. The quote is also saying that everybody has some flaws and imperfections but they also have positives and should not be criticized for their mistakes. Everybody deserves a second chance to redeem themselves from a mistake they may have made in their life. If nobody could make up for their mistakes the world and its people would not progress as a whole and everybody would stay in the same positions throughout their lives. Forgiveness is necessary for humanity to remain progressive and keep developing positively. Everybody goes through situations that can have a negative or positive effect on them and those who stay with them throughout everything are the ones that truly love and care about a person. If you are only with somebody during the best of times you are not there to help them through the situations that take the biggest toll on them therefore you do not truly care for them. The up and down moments in the relationships of others allows them to build a stronger bond with one another. The more you and a person have gone through together is the more you have been able to laugh with them during through the good times and help them get through all their troubling situations. A bond or friendship like that is one that should be cherished until the end of time
ReplyDeleteBob Marley once said “Truth is everybody is going to hurt you; you just gotta find the ones worth suffering for.” To me this quote is incredibly true; nothing is perfect including relationships, friendships, and the relationships you have with your family. If you are truly invested in a relationship, which ever one that is, you are eventually going to get hurt because your feelings, emotions and trust are given to that person; who ever that may be. Like they say you are putting your walls down. This can be at times a good thing or a bad thing. It can be a good thing because if you are no longer guarding yourself from getting hurt you open up to people and in turn hopefully they will open up to you as well. However the negative side to this is you will eventually get hurt, it might not be severe but it will happen. Though, this is when you decide if that person is worth getting hurt for. You might originally decide to trust someone but their actions over time can completely change how you feel about them. I apply this quote to my everyday life because the people I consider my close friends I trust and when I decide that I completely trust someone I believe that I will just become better and better in your eyes because you will know you can trust me for sure if you didn’t know it already. When I completely trust someone I know that a silly argument won’t end our relationship but earning that trust will not be easy, it takes hard work. Overall the quote is just saying no matter what people will hurt you but is the person you have a relationship with worth getting hurt for? This quote relates to TFA when Okonkwo killed Ikemefuna, he simply decided that Ikemefuna was not worth him feeling like a women. He believed that if he did not help in the killing of Ikemefuna he would be called a woman. To him Ikemefuna was not worth suffering for.
ReplyDeleteAnother quote that Bob Marley said that stuck with me is “Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our minds.” Once again I believe this quote is very true, it’s a simple quote yet it means so much to me. I believe that when Bob Marley said this he was talking about blacks and the way they think of them selves and how they think about other blacks. We are physically free from slavery but mentally we are not. This quote really makes me think because I don’t believe that I am completely mentally free, though I was not in slavery it’s just how I feel. It makes me truly wonder if any black person can REALLY be free. Meaning can we truly ever completely and entirely accept our selves ?

ReplyDeleteThere are many famous quotes said by people that inspire us. The one famous quote I like was by Walt Disney saying, “All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to purse them.” Walt Disney’s legacy has inspired many of American and maybe even across the globe’s youth. Walt Disney wants kids to think way beyond outside of the box, to a point they can achieve anything. Even Walt Disney’s attractions, Disneyland and world, have inspired many other to believe and they can achieve. Another famous inspirational man was the 35th president, John Fitzgerald Kennedy. JFK was one of the most inspirational and well leading presidents during the 20th century. One of his quotes “A child miseducated is a lost” This foreshadows that the youth of America can only become successful by who’s guiding him/her. Many children don’t get the greatest education from our teachers probably because they lack the skill to control a slight inch in their lives. Another quote by JFK would be, “Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future.” What JFK is trying to say is that you shouldn’t look back at what you’ve done or what has happened, but what may happen. If you were to always think of what happen back then, you will never know what will happen now or what may happen. It’s always good to make sure your head strong into your life. Many quotes have inspired me to do better, or try to achieve better, and all of them has slight gained a side-affect on me. Another I would say that’s inspiring would be from Malcolm X who said, “The future belongs to those who prepare for it today.” What Malcolm was saying was that it’s best to be aware of what may come next, because it may benefit in a great way. If you always wonder what you might do next, you may fall behind and lose who you truly want to be, or known for. Respect is never free, it’s always earned.
In order for me to get through an obstacle I have to face, when I do not have the courage to face it, I use the chorus from one of my favorite songs to inspire and push me to overcome my fear: “You can’t be too careful anymore, when all that is waiting for you won’t come any closer, you’ve got to reach a little more.” This song is called “Careful” by a rock band called “Paramore”. This chorus reminds me that nothing comes to anyone if they only wait for something to happen. A difference is made if one takes an effort to do something about a situation as well. Individuals have to work hard at receiving what they truly desire.
ReplyDeleteThis quote relates to 2 pieces of literature I have read. This quote relates to Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe and Night by Elie Wiesel. This quote relates to Things Fall Apart because towards the beginning of the book, Okonkwo had a strong aversion towards the way his father behaved. Okonkwo disliked the way his father always borrowed money from people and haven’t received a title. In Okonkwo’s opinion, his father was effeminate. Okonkwo utilizes this chorus by ensuring that he does not become like his father. Okonkwo (reaches a little more by) becoming very wealthy in Umofia, ensures that he can take car 3 of his families and never becoming effeminate by always being “manly”.
The book Night relates to the quote because Elie had to survive in the book. In order to survive individuals had to endure things they usually do not encounter and be brave. One way Elie had (reached a little more) in the book was when he ran away during inspection. In the concentration camps, inspection was done to see if all the prisoners in the concentration camp were well, if a prisoner was not well, they would be killed. Elie was well aware that he was going to fail inspection so he (reached a little more) by running away. Elie risked being shot at while running. He didn’t wait to be killed.
I also live by this quote as well by doing the best I can in school and becoming involved in programs that can help me academically in school. I am also reaching a little more by trying to receive more help than the originally help given to me. I live by my favorite inspirational chorus by Paramore everyday.
Well one of my favorite quotes is that we are all born to die. Strangely that quote is very meaningful to me. This quote tells me that life is very unassuring, you never know what could happen today or tomorrow. This quote makes me view myself as less cheap and more care free because when we die we don’t take our stress and money with us. It relates to literature that we read was when okonkwo shot one of the elders by accident. He didn’t mean to kill him it was an accident. That’s how life could end, just so suddenly. This makes the way I view the world as it being meaningless. Because people kill other people every day and I think people don’t know how valuable life is. People just take it for granted. How could you take another persons life? And this could happen to anyone at any point in time. But it doesn’t mean to destroy your life. Because just because you’re going die doesn’t mean you’re going to die today or tomorrow. So I just live my life the best I can until that day comes. But this also applies to the people around you. They can die any time too. That’s why you never take anything for granted. This is all I really have to say on this quote. On last quote I want to talk about is one mans loss is anther mans gain. This is a very valid statement. Something that may not be valuable to you can definitely valuable to someone else. Like the old clothing that people throw away is very valuable to homeless people. The way that I view myself with this is that I try to value everything I have. I don’t take nothing I have for granted because someone else in the world don’t have the life that we have. And they would very much want what we throw away. But if I really don’t want something I give it away to somebody that I really don’t want it. These are one of my two favorite quotes that I want to share.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite deep statement is by Kirk Franklin from the song “He Will Supply” . In the quote he said “For my friends don’t you worry because, he will supply, this is just temporary, but he will supply…Oh Jesus, my Jesus, sweet Jesus, yes Jesus, lord Jesus, said that he will supply”. I live by this quote not just because it is from a gospel song, but because I do believe by the saying and every time I hear this song, or that part of the song it makes me want to smile, it makes me feel relaxed. This quote affects a lot of things in my life. It changed situations in my life, the world and other friends (adult - children) lives. This quote affects the way I view myself because, whenever I am going through a bad situation. Whether it is school, home, or friends, I would plug my iPod in if I have it, or just sing the song over and over in my head until a part of me feel better. The quote also allow me to help others when they are going through a rough situation or something terrible in their life, even if it is something they want in life and they ask for it but they feel it is taking a while I would repeat the quote to them. Listening, or going by this quote allows me to look at the world in a better way. the quote can have a good impact on life just because of the words, I know this because it has surely changed mines. This may relate to a literature but not “Things Fall Apart”. The most common thing my quote has to do with the literature “Things Fall Apart” is Christianity. My song is a Christian quote, and in the book the British colonized Nigeria and bring Christianity. In conclusion the littlest things can help you in life. Even if you think it is not, or will not help you it is helping someone you know get through their situation, or they can help someone else that need uplifting.

ReplyDeleteDeep statements and quotations serve as a source of motivation, inspiration, and encouragement throughout my life primarily because of the influential words and powerful meaning they convey. One of my favorite quotes by a major public figure is, “Courage is not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.” by Nelson Mandela. Mandela’s quote basically means that courage does not define a person but it is what they do to overcome their problems defines who they are. This quote plays a significant role in my personal life as it serves as a principle to keep in mind when peer pressure comes along. The purport I am trying to emphasize is that when your companions are forcing you to do something amiss or erroneous you should not break into following their scheme despite all the taunting and insult they throw at you. They will consider you impotent and timorous because you lack the courage they desire but just remember that braveness does not define a person but the act of refusing to follow the wrong crowd defines who you are.
The urban fiction, If I Grow Up, by Todd Strasser is a literary work that is relatively similar to the message in Nelson Mandela’s quote considering how both individuals accentuate the negative impact of peer pressure. If I Grow Up chronicled the teenage years of DeShawn, a young boy who lived with his grandmother and older sister in the Frederick Douglass projects. The surrounding was plagued with drugs and gang violence, and many teenagers dropped out of school to joined gangs. DeShawn who was smart enough knew the outcome of gangsters’ lives and so he stayed in school. But while his friends had drugs money to buy fancy sneakers and big-screens TVs and showed off against him he began having second thoughts about staying in school and doing the right things. DeShawn’s situation was very much like Nelson Mandela’s quote because peer pressure was reflected from both angles. DeShawn allowed the negative impact from friends to overtook his life even though he knew it was the wrong thing to do. He was annoyed of the braggarts around him causing him to feel like a outcast and the only solution he thought there was to avoid his problem was to joined them.
Some of the most powerful quotes come from rappers. Tupac Shakur was one of the most lyrically best rapper. He said many quotes in his life, however, one of them that I live by is "There's gonna be some stuff u gonna see that's gonna make it hard to smile in the future, but through whatever you see, through all the rain and all the pain, you gotta keep your sense of humor. You gotta be able to smile through all of the bulls****.” When you are faced with a lot of challenges through out your life you have to make sure, it don’t brake you down, and you must be strong. That’s something that I always do, in my toughest time I maintain my composure. If you let things brake you down easily then you’re showing that you’re not a strong person.
ReplyDeleteAnother quote Tupac Shakur said was “Let all of the hatters talk what they want, only god could judge you at the end. This affect everyone’s life’s one time or another. There is always going to be someone in your life that is going to judge you wrong or put you down. You just need to ignore them and keep on living because only god can judge you. Don’t let those type of people get into your head. The more fuel and ammunition you give them, the more their going to bother you. They shouldn’t be important because only god will judge the things you do in life.
Tupac Shakur said many other positive things in his life. He’s an extremely good rapper with powerful lyrics and has affected many people lives. He was a person that said things that came from his heart, he didn’t care what people thought about him or what he said. Tupac was a leader not a follower and that something that everyone idealized about him, because of that his songs and albums still play. Like he says, “a coward dies a thousand times, but a solider dies once.”
Tupac Shakur Is an Intellectual Man. His Lyrics influence many. When he said, "Cause aint nuttiin worse den when ya son wants to know why his daddy dont love him no mo'" He shows how many Children grow up without a father figure in theie life. That is one of the worse feelings you would ever experience. You begin to think what can i have possibly done at such a young age that the man who created me decides he doesnt want to deal with me. You are hurt inside and you see your friends with their fathers and wish you were them.
ReplyDeleteWhen he says "i know its kinda rough when your feelin all alone , Daddys long gone and he left you by ya lonesome" He shows that without your father in your life you begin to feel lonely. Your mother has a big responsibility and she's on her own. nobody truly understands this feeling until they have really experienced it. i have no knowledge whether or not tupac has his father in his life but he understands how a fatherless child feels. They blame themselves for their dead beat dads decisions. As a man who spoke to the people he had major influences on helping them overcome their inner pain. Tupac told them said "Even though your Fed up , You gotta Keep Your Head Up" The entire song has a high influence on many things. It tells you that everything is okay and not to blame yourself for what somebody does. be responsible for your actions and nobody else's.
Tupacs SOng "Keep ya head up" Taught me to let go of the past and to do what i have to do and worry about me. It told me to let go of my fathers dead beat mistakes and forget about him,. The bible sayd to honor thy parents but i cant force him to accept me. I will stand closeby to my mother and make her proud. When it all comes out and i become a success he's going to be eating out the palm of my hands and i will not allow him to for how he treated me.
SO i thank tuoac for his inspiring words and like he says i will Keep My Head Up.
